We paint Cessna Airplanes in Redmond, OR. What are they? According
to Wikipedia, “The Cessna Aircraft Company is an American general aviation
aircraft manufacturing corporation headquartered in Wichita, Kansas. Best known
for small, piston-powered aircraft, Cessna also produces business jets. The
company is a subsidiary of the U.S. conglomerate Textron.” We strip and paint
these airplanes.
Cessna airplanes were the most produced in history. In 1911,
Clyde Cessna of Kansas built his first airplane between the Mississippi and the
Rocky Mountains. Since then and 1960, the company produced over 50,000
aircrafts. Now, Cessna resides in China after closing its Bend OR facility in
2009 and are building jet airplanes with the help of Aviation Industry
Corporation of China. Many Cessna lovers were very disappointed in the merger
and eventual shut down of the Central Oregon manufacturing facility, however
the pre-china airplanes remain the most cared for and beloved aircraft of all time
with a high resale value.
If you’re looking to buy a used Cessna, there are so many
things to look for and this article can only skim the surface, but here are a
few details that you would be happy knowing before you make the buy:
·
When looking at the engine, you must look at the
time since major overhaul or since factory remanufacture. Cessna installed
172’s with a continental engine who’s time before overhaul is 1800 versus the
later versions with Lycoming engines which have 2,000 hours. The lower overtime
the better.
·
Airframe time or total time airframe is the date
since the plane was built accompanied with the time it has flown in the air. A
good example is someone could sell you a plane that was used in flight school
which was stalled, landed hard and spun which would cause major wear and tear.
The lower the TTAF the better.
·
Paint interior and exterior. A brand new paint
job could be covering up corrosion. Companies like mine can tell if that has
occurred so it wouldn’t hurt to have a professional assess the airplane before
making the purchase.
According to Manta, one of the largest online resources
dedicated to small business, there are under 200 companies in the United States
that paint Cessna airplanes and we are one of them although this data is quite
old. Since there was only one in Oregon (ours not included) we can assume the
numbers are definitely smaller. Why is this important to know? Painting a
Cessna airplane is not as easy as you think. You must research a company that
has history taking apart the mechanics, stripping and resurfacing with new
paint. Believe it or not, but there are not very many qualified aircraft paint
shops in the West Coast that can paint a Cessna!
Why is Vert, Inc so perfect? Because we live in the heart of
Cessna as our county used to manufacturer these airplanes and we have hired
specialists whom have worked with Cessna airplanes in the past. We are the most
qualified aircraft paint shop on the West Coast when it comes to painting your
baby and we understand the importance of doing it right the first time. No
other company on the West Coast can match our expertise on painting Cessna
Airplanes!
